This is a new venture for me and I am adding it to the studio and shop under woodland garden nature art cards and gifts since you can do both with this new item. I hope you enjoy.
Have you ever considered using watercolors on painted furniture? I know it sounds crazy watercolors? Yes you can use watercolor paints and make them durable. Let me show you how.
First you have to prime the work with gesso or another water based primer (oil primers do not work). Allow the primer to set up for a day. Take a sand paper (180 grit or finer) and gently go over the entire surface. I like to used gouache and watercolor paints. For this tray I decided to go with a watercolor nebula effect.

I chose the colors I wanted to use and started with the bottom corners of the tray applying color. Working quickly I covered the bottom area and the sides of the frame with patterns of color. I let the paint set for a short time and then (here comes the fun part) I took a clean brush dipped it in clean water and splattered the painted areas. The paint colors started to meld into each other. A side note do not add too much water it is better to do this in stages. The sides I found the watercolors ran down into the bottom. This is a time consuming process because you have to allow drying time in between each application.

I wanted more depth to the colors and added splashes of color to my wet brush. The splashes of color hit the sides of the tray. I wanted the sides to melt away from the bottom so I used a rag and pulled the color away.

The back of the sides are finished in the same way as the front. Now it is looking like a nebula but it needs something else? What? Then I saw an image of a nebula and I saw golds and silvers inside this wonderful image. On the sides I added gold and silver gilded cream paints. Gently rubbing the surface until I got the effect I wanted.

Allow everything to set up and thoroughly dry. Now you can apply a clear oil based varnish or lacquer with a brush or spray. It is very important you use an oil based product. The oil based product even brushed will not disturb the watercolor paints. Apply several coats and I finished this tray off with a cork backing.

Decorating any home is a bit confusing and sometimes overwhelming. Today you can mix it up with farmhouse cottage chic furniture with traditional antiques and modern lines of sofas and chairs. But to pull any of it together decide on color. I like to break it down and simplify things by using color. Start with one primary color and use that one color as your base color. If it is a bright crisp color maybe choosing your walls in a white would work or if you like the muted tones of blue and aqua I like to use a pewter gray on walls. Keeping the soft gray themed room in mind you could easily use as accent furnishings my tray, box and art to bring in the subtle shades of nature in a farmhouse cottage home.

Now add a painted farmhouse wood serving tray handmade distressed cottage design taken from a wallpaper I discovered of pussy willows. My wooden serving tray is a sturdy well made hand painted and sealed with a protective vanish and wax. I designed this serving tray entertaining indoors or outside. When not in use, hang it up on the wall.
Color Palette: gray beige, verdigris, umber brown, deep pine green, aqua, soft gold yellow.
Painted wooden wall mirror farmhouse style furniture is cottage distressed shabby chic and makes a great add to painted furniture. The frame is hand painted with painted stripes i n a soothing robin egg blue and cream with decorative hand painted ivy. A 3 1/2″ pine wood frame is painted, varnished and slightly distressed then rubbed to give it a time worn effect. The entire finish is sealed with a butcher wax. Crafted by my own hand. It is ready to hang.
I like to take frames and rest them up against the wall on the mantle, chest of drawers or table. It gives the eye some interest and a little added depth to a room. Try it.
Overall dimension is a 15″ square and the mirror is an 8″ square.

Painted botanical nature box is painted with botanical garden flowers and woodland herbs in greens and whites by Laurie Rohner. By choosing a base color scheme you can change it up. For instance if you enjoy smokey colors by choosing a neutral base color you can change the pops of color from the scheme I presented to a dramatic all black and cream or throw some golden yellows and soft reds. Just stay in the smokey tones and have fun.

A farmhouse decorative wooden bowl is hand painted. I took a turned unfinished wooden maple bowl, painted it a soft white and hand painted a beautiful detailed vine of blackberries strewn across its surface. It has a low luster sheen.
Mainly used for decorative purposes but perfectly OK for apples or nuts. Can be sponged clean. A very useful bowl and can go in any room.
Approximately 9″ in diameter and 3″ high.

I bought some strawberries at the market the other day and while washing them decided to take a few to paint. Painted Vintage Furnishing Metal Bowl Red Cherries Checker Board Farmhouse Cottage Chic Decor
Painted vintage metal bowl furnishing with red cherries and checker board pattern in black and white on a black painted farmhouse cottage chic metal vintage sifter. The vintage metal sifter is primed and then painted black and bright red cherries decorate the outside with a black and white checkerboard around the bottom rim. This is the old way people used to sift their flour, imagine that.
Use it as a fruit bowl but I think it is great to hold a potted plant or soaps or candles or bills notes or keys. The uses are as many as you can think.
It is sealed with a lacquer.
